Marriska Fernandes is a Toronto-based entertainment journalist, reporter and film & TV critic, covering the entertainment scene for over 15 years.
Since 2013, she was an entertainment editor and host at Tribute.ca, where she wrote film and TV reviews, movie and industry news, interviewed hundreds of actors and filmmakers, produced the annual TIFF junkets, and covered international film junkets and set visits, including securing Canadian-exclusive Game of Thrones interviews.
Currently, as a freelance entertainment reporter and film/TV critic, she contributes to The Toronto Star, National Post, CBC Arts, Exclaim.ca, Sharp Magazine, S Magazine and Elle Canada.
She’s also the host of Telefilm Canada’s podcast, Maple Popcorn. Every week, she sits down with Canadian actors and filmmakers for exclusive interviews on Canadian flicks as they break the fifth wall to share set anecdotes.
From reporting celebrity and movie news to covering movie/TV reviews of theatrical streaming and home entertainment releases, Marriska has covered it all. Her extensive experience also includes on-camera, print and red carpet interviews with Christopher Nola, George Clooney, Christian Bale, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Aniston, Benedict Cumberbatch, Keanu Reeves, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jason Bateman, Zac Efron, Daniel Radcliffe, Seth Rogen, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Kate Beckinsale, Riz Ahmed, Mahershala Ali and more.
Marriska has constantly secured Canada-exclusive print and digital interviews, more recently with a 15-minute 1:1 with Christopher Nolan for the Oscar-winning Oppenheimer.
She loves binge-watching TV shows, and quite often, you'll find her binge-watching an entire series on end. She’s obsessed with the horror genre and has zero chill when it comes to interviewing today’s celebrated horror filmmakers.
She continues to cover the Toronto International Film Festival every year, watching and reviewing films, covering red carpets, producing video content and interviewing talent. She believes that nothing's more entertaining than the magic of movies and television.
She’s also a lifestyle writer and her work has appeared on National Post, Yahoo Canada, Huffington Post Canada, 29Secrets.com, Byrdie.com, Elle Canada, Chatelaine.
